Frequently Asked Questions
#Why do we need another modding website?
Many members of the modding community have been frustrated by how long it can take for Thunderstore to implement frequently requested features. Examples include a built in comment section and the ability to edit a mod's README without publishing a new version. Hexium aims to provide a more responsive platform that evolves alongside the needs of both mod authors and users.
#Can I upload paid mods?
Yes. Paid mods are allowed, provided they are clearly marked as paid so users can filter them if they wish.
Please note that if there is credible evidence that a paid mod is fraudulent or intentionally misleading, we will prioritize protecting users and take appropriate action, which may include removing the mod while the matter is investigated.
#Can I upload obfuscated mods?
Yes, but only if your mod has been obfuscated using Hexium's built in obfuscation tool.
To do so, navigate to Tools → Obfuscate DLL, upload your unobfuscated DLL, configure the obfuscation settings to your liking, and download the resulting obfuscated DLL. Thoroughly test the obfuscated version to ensure it still functions correctly before submitting it to Hexium.
When using the obfuscation tool, Hexium securely stores a copy of the original, unobfuscated DLL. This copy is used solely for malware scanning and, when necessary, manual code verification by the Hexium staff. These files are never distributed publicly and are only accessible to authorized staff members.
#Is there mod manager support for Hexium?
Yes. Gale supports downloading mods from Hexium while continuing to support Thunderstore. This allows you to use mods from both platforms through a single mod manager.
#Do I have to tag my mods as AI generated if I used AI during development?
No.
Our primary concern is not whether AI was used, but the quality and maintainability of the resulting mod. Mods should function correctly, be well maintained, and have an author who understands and can support their own work.
A well maintained mod that was developed with AI assistance is preferable to a broken or abandoned mod, regardless of how it was created.
#How does the reputation system work?
The reputation system is designed to reward authors who consistently publish high quality mods, keep them up to date, and provide ongoing support.
Authors who frequently abandon projects, publish broken releases, or otherwise fail to maintain their mods will generally receive a lower reputation. Users can use this information to filter or evaluate mods based on an author's track record.
The system is still evolving, and we expect to refine it over time so that it better reflects the values and goals of the Hexium community.
#How do I create an API token to export modpacks from Gale?
After signing in, click the settings icon next to your username to open your team settings. If you don't have a team yet, you'll be prompted to create one first.
On the team management page, scroll to the bottom and create a new API token. You can then use this token to export modpacks from Gale.
Keep your API token private. Anyone with access to it can perform actions on your behalf and effectively impersonate your account.
